At the Scottish Labour Party conference, Pauline Bryan launched a paper on what the UK’s political structure could look like in the future. Bryan is in charge of developing Labour’s policy on constitutional affairs.

On 10 March, the New York Times published a story disputing the US government’s claims that Venezuelan officials had burned US ‘aid’ trucks. The report showed that it was Venezuelan opposition protesters – and not pro-government forces – that had set the trucks alight.

In early November 2018, it first came to light that the Bank of England in London was delaying and blocking the withdrawal of 14 tonnes of gold owned by the Venezuelan central bank, Banco Central de Venezuela (BCV). At the time, Reuters and The Times of London both reported that according to unnamed British ‘public officials’, the delays were being caused by the difficulty and cost of obtaining insurance for the gold shipment back to Venezuela, and also due to “standard measures to prevent money-laundering“.

In parliament, Alan Duncan for the government has just rejected yesterday’s stunning result at the International Court of Justice, where British occupation of the Chagos Islands was found unlawful by a majority of 13 to 1, with all the judges from EU countries amongst those finding against the UK.

UK | Brexit: Netherlands talking to 250 firms about leaving UK

The Dutch government has said it is in talks with more than 250 companies about moving their operations from the UK to the Netherlands before Brexit.

The economic affairs ministry said it had lured 42 companies or branch offices and 1,923 jobs from the UK last year, as it increases its efforts to gain Brexit business.
