Explosions in Donbas and increasing military activity

Three explosions of improvised explosive devices in the center of Donetsk were recorded on February 18 by representatives of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire (JCCCC). Victims and injuries are not recorded, the representation reported. The JCCCC specified that the explosions occurred near the Park Inn Hotel, where the OSCE SMM monitors are based, and the administrative buildings of the republic’s leadership. “There were no injuries among the civilian population and damage to the civil infrastructure,” added the DPR representative office. Some buildings and infrastructure were minimally damaged.

According to reports, explosive devices were dropped from unmanned aerial vehicles. At the same time, law enforcement agencies of the DPR are also working on the version that the explosions were the work of saboteurs. At present, the sappers are checking the central part of the city for other explosive devices that they could have laid.

On the same day, the Kiev troops subjected to mortar shelling the village of Staromikhailovka, Dokuchaevsk and the city of Gorlovka. In Staromikhailovka and Gorlovka houses were damaged, and in Dokuchaevsk a local resident was wounded.

Over the past week, the situation on the line of demarcation between the DPR and the territory controlled by Kiev has become hotter. The territory of the unrecognized republic is subject to ever more frequent shelling from Kiev. In turn, the armed forces of the DPR have begun to open fire on Ukrainian positions more often. The return fire is especially active under the city of Mariupol. On the victims in the territory controlled by Kiev it is not reported.
