On May 9, residents of Ukraine traditionally celebrate the Victory Day of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.

About 460 thousand people took part in the events dedicated to the Victory Day in Ukraine. It was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

Residents of Odessa were particularly active as they usually do last years. As it was noted in the local police, 50 thousand people visited events on the Odessa Alley of Glory in honor of the Victory Day.

This year residents of Kiev were unusually active. Journalists can not yet accurately determine the number of participants in the festive events in Kiev. There are estimates from 10 thousand to 50 thousand people.

Fascist gangs have traditionally been at festive events to intimidate Ukrainian citizens who remember their history. This year, the police conducted explanatory work with the fascists, so there were very few incidents on their part. However, now the police itself was fighting against the use of Soviet symbols, which the Kiev regime banned.
First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Sergey Yarovyi said that 28 people were taken to the police, 16 administrative protocols were drawn up against them. In addition, five criminal proceedings have been opened.

In total, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 30 people were detained for carrying forbidden Soviet symbols in Kiev on May 9, another 14 – in another cities. Arrests and detentions took place in Odessa, Nikolayev, Poltava and Lviv. So in Odessa 2 people were detained for the St. George ribbons, another 2 people – for the red flags, the owner of the car was detained, who posted a red banner on it.

According to media reports, three more people with St. George ribbons were detained in Nikolayev and one man in a T-shirt with the inscription of the USSR in Lviv. One person was detained in Poltava. He used the Red Army headpiece.

In Kiev, during the action of remembrance, the police detained the head of the Institute of Legal Policy and Social Protection named after Irina Berezhnaya Elena Berezhnaya.
Police officers detaining her used physical force. Fascist gang S-14 helped them and beat Elena Berezhnaya.

In addition, the fascists from the S-14 attacked in Kiev a Russian diplomat, the head of Rossotrudnichestvo, Konstantin Vorobyov. The fascists poured him with the greenery when he was going to lay flowers on the occasion of the Victory day.

SBU officials sent out of Ukraine two special correspondents from Russia’s First Channel and Rossiya television channel, who were sent to Kiev to prepare reports about the celebration of the Victory Day. According to the SBU, they planned to use video materials “to discredit Ukraine before the world community and spread disinformation among the population.”
