Ukraine | Ukraine bars two Spanish journalists over war coverage

Ukrainian security said on Tuesday it had barred two Spanish journalists from the country over their coverage of a conflict with eastern separatists – a move media groups decried as an attack on free speech.

The State Security Service (SBU) said the reporters had produced stories alleging Ukrainian troops had shelled civilian areas, an account it said was false.

The United Nations Coordinator for Humanitarian Aid and Development Activities (OCHA) released a statement on Thursday confirming that $2.5 million of the UN’s Humanitarian Fund was being donated to the besieged Gaza Strip in order to meet urgent needs in the territory, on the same day that a UK-based NGO warned of an escalating “humanitarian emergency” in the small enclave.

US and DPRK still insist on playing the power game

As relations between the United States and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea further deteriorate, some East Asian countries are busy strengthening their militaries. At the United Nations forum on disarmament in Geneva on Tuesday, the US and the DPRK accused each other of posing a nuclear threat. US envoy Robert Wood elaborated on President Donald Trump’s top priority: protect the US and its allies against the “growing threat” from the DPRK, for which Washington will use “the full range of capabilities at our disposal”.

Ukraine | Police and fascists joint front in Ukraine

At night on August 24 Ukrainian police guarded Ukrainian fascists in Odessa while fascists pulled down and desecrated monument to the Soviet marshal Georgiy Zhukov well known for his struggle against fascism in the second world war. Fascist thugs pulled down the monument and transported it to another part of the city. When they beat it with legs and symbolically hang it. They finished their derision with traditional fascist firework.
