The death of Palestinian activist rises problems of liberation movement

On 6 March 2017, Palestinian activist Basil Al-Araj was murdered by the Israeli army. He was 31 years old. The family and friends of Al-Araj joined a demonstration in front of the Ramallah court house where Basil and his friends were being “tried” for resistance to Israel. The peaceful demonstration was attacked by Palestinian police with clubs and tear gas. Injuries and arrests happened. As Palestinian scientist Mazin Qumsiyeh states, this is totally unacceptable and is a direct result of the Oslo process that created the Palestinian authority as a subcontractor of the occupation. The PA was also attacking a Palestinian diaspora conference that gathered over 5000 leading Palestinians in Turkey.
