No “Peace on Earth” in 2016

“Peace on Earth, and goodwill to men”—so goes the line of an oft-sung Christmas carol. The end-of-the-year holidays are a season in which such sentiments are generally expressed, genuinely by broad sections of the population, with utmost cynicism and hypocrisy by various figures in the political establishment.

Final trial results confirm Ebola vaccine provides ‘high protection’ – UN health agency

The United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) has said that an experimental Ebola vaccine has been found to be highly protective against the deadly virus in a major trial in Guinea.

“The vaccine is the first to prevent infection from one of the most lethal known pathogens, and the findings add weight to early trial results published last year,” WHO said in a news release, noting the results of the latest trial, published earlier today in the medical journal The Lancet.

Ukraine | Kiev controlled army: non-combat losses exceeded combat losses for 2016

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have reported its losses for the year 2016.

Thus, the total number of losses in 2016 amounts to 467 men, among which are a few more non-combat — 256, than combat — 211. In addition, the Ukrainian army lost more than 100 units of military equipment and weapons during military operations. Such a request for data of the UAF was submitted by the Ukrainian service of the BBC.
