The court ordered Ukraine to pay pensions

The Supreme Administrative Court of Ukraine ordered the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to resume payments to residents of Donbas, starting from October 16.
If the Ukrainian government would violate a court order, it shall be subject to criminal liability. Lawyers believe that this is a great victory for pensioners of Donbas.
The problem with the payment of pensions in the Eastern Ukraine emerged late last year. November 7, 2014 the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to stop payment of pensions in the territories, which were not under Ukraine’s control. On December 1, 2014 Pension Fund of Ukraine has completely stopped its activities in the Donbas. This has affected not only the elderly. Ukraine is no longer pay benefits to orphans, single mothers, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, the liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster, children with disabilities and other socially vulnerable categories of citizens.
Lawyer Irina Khizhnyak, who has won a case in the Supreme Administrative Court of Ukraine, believes that despite the court’s decision, the payment of pensions to residents of Donbas will be resumed not in October 2015 but in January 2016, because funds for these purposes are not provided in the Ukrainian budget for the current year.
