USA | Deal reached on Pacific Rim trade pact in boost for Obama economic agenda

The United States, Japan and 10 other Pacific Rim nations reached agreement Monday on the largest free-trade accord in a generation, an ambitious effort led by the Obama administration to knit together economies across a vast region.

NATO’s Stoltenberg Condemns Russian Violation of Turkey Airspace

NATO condemned Russia’s violation of Turkey’s airspace and urged the Kremlin to coordinate its campaign against Islamic State.

“Russia’s actions are not contributing to the security and stability of the region,” North Atlantic Treaty Organization Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in Brussels on Monday. “I call on Russia to fully respect NATO airspace and to avoid escalating tensions with the alliance.”

Russia’s military intervention in Syria, although further internationalising the conflict, does however present opportunities, as well as complications. There are no simple solutions to this terrible war which has destroyed Syria. Out of a population of 22 million, four million Syrians are refugees abroad and seven million have been displaced inside the country.
