US supplies anti-tank systems to Eastern Europe

As reported by the US Department of Defense, the Pentagon contractors received a contract for the production of the Javelin Weapon System for a number of foreign countries.

“Raytheon-Lockheed Martin Javelin JV, Tucson, Arizona, was awarded a $307,535,950 modification (P00107) to Foreign Military Sales (Australia, Estonia, Lithuania, Turkey Taiwan and Ukraine) contract W31P4Q-13-C-0129 for Javelin Weapon System full-rate production. Work will be performed in Tucson, Arizona, with an estimated completion date of Aug. 31, 2021. Fiscal 2018 other procurement, Army funds in the amount of $307,535,950 were obligated at the time of the award. U.S. Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting activity.”

Half of these countries are in Eastern Europe. These supplies continue the US military policy in the region, begun under Barack Obama. Since 2014, the US has been actively building up its military presence in Eastern Europe and demanding from its allies to increase military spending. This course is aimed at deterring Russia. Apparently, javelins will be delivered to Ukraine and the Baltic states with the same goal: to meet hypothetical Russian tanks.
