Samir Amin: Catalogne, Espagne, Autriche, Europe ….la dérive

Ukraine | Ukrainian anti-Semites intensified activity in Odessa

Odessa is a multinational city, a great contribution was made by Jews to its cultural development. After the right-wing coup in February 2014, the main focus of the Ukrainian fascists was directed towards the struggle against the Russians. But they do not forget the Jews too. Recently they have reminded their existence in Odessa. On December 25 inscriptions of offensive anti-Semitic content appeared on several buildings in Odessa. On the building of the former synagogue, where the regional archive is now, the inscription “Off the Jews, Ukraine for Ukrainians!” appeared, and at the entrance to the Museum of the Holocaust on Bolshaya Arnautskaya Street was written “The First Toast – for the Holocaust!” Both inscriptions were accompanied by Nazi symbols used by the Azov regiment and other Ukrainian right-wing radical groups.
The anti-Semitic inscriptions were quickly painted over. A spokesman for the local Jewish community “Chabad” Boleslav Kapulkin called on the police to immediate investigation to the incident. The police opened a case of incitement to national, racial or religious hatred and enmity. At the same time, the Odessa police do not react to similar Russophobic manifestations.
