Zimbabwe’s Military Denies Coup

Zimbabwe’s ruling party is reportedly facing an unprecedented mutiny by the head of the armed forces, as troops take up positions in the capital in an escalation of a dispute with 93-year-old President Robert Mugabe.

South African President Jacob Zuma, who is reportedly readying an envoy to mediate the situation, said Mugabe is “fine” and urged for “calm and restraint.”

Ukraine | Unidentified cat spy or farce style criminal persecution

Ukrainian media reported that in the criminal case of opposition journalist Vasily Muravitsky, who was arrested on charges of high treason, scandalous details were revealed. Andrei Gozhyy, Muravitsky’s lawyer, said that the special services accuse him of contacting a secret Russian agent called Pampukh. But in fact, Pampukh is not a man, but a cat that lives with his relatives.
Julia Maltseva, the owner of the cat, confirmed the statement and placed a Facebook post describing her cat. According to Maltseva, Pampuh is a very respectful cat and could be “not just an agent, but also a curator”, but the presence of paws hinders it to play that role.
The owner makes her own guess, why the Ukrainian special services turned the cat Pampukh into a secret agent. She says that keeps company with Muravitsky, so they periodically called up and communicated:
“Last winter we decided to go to Vasya (diminutive from Vasily – edit.) for a few days to visit and take the cat with us. At that time, SBU obviously listened to Muravitsky’s telephone conversations for a long time, therefore, his promise to take Pampukh to the highest rank it took into account and thought that Pampukh is a very serious person, since we always name it only by nickname.”
Although the case of Muravitsky more and more resembles a farce, the Ukrainian special services intend to resolutely bring it to the end, and then it will not be funny, but sad. Opposition journalist Muravitsky was arrested by special services in Zhytomyr on August 1, 2017. He is suspected of state treason, encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, violation of the equality of citizens and the establishment of a terrorist organization. According to the SBU, his articles were published on “websites that were administered from the Russian Federation and temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.” The prosecutor’s office said that the journalist faces up to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
